How To Maintain A Sparkling Smile

Your smile is your most noticeable feature, so it’s understandable to want to keep it looking fabulous. If you’ve overindulged over the holidays, here are some dental health hacks to help you maintain that sparkling smile.

Brushing and flossing

Good oral hygiene is the best weapon you have against decay and gum disease. You may be desperate to fall into bed at the end of a grueling day of studying, but take two minutes to brush your teeth. If you neglect your oral health, you’ll end up with problems like toothache and sensitivity, and you may even lose teeth prematurely. When you’re brushing, make sure you do a thorough job, but always be gentle. Brushing too hard can damage your enamel. Dentists like Dr. Sina Reangber recommend brushing twice a day for at least two minutes. If you’re guilty of rushing, set a timer or put a song on and brush to the end. This will make sure that you do a proper job. Once you’ve brushed, take a minute to floss. Flossing enables you to remove food debris and bacteria from the cracks between the teeth. It’s important to wait at least 45 minutes after eating to clean your teeth. This prevents enamel erosion.

Seeing a dentist

Many of us feel apprehensive about seeing a dentist, but it can make a world of difference to your oral health. If you avoid dental visits, you’ll have a much higher risk of cavities and gum disease. If you are a nervous patient, don’t hesitate to talk to your dentist about your anxiety. They can help you to feel more comfortable, and they can also use modern techniques to minimize pain and make sure you feel as relaxed as possible. When you have a check-up at the dentist, they will have a good look around your mouth for signs of decay, gum disease, and mouth cancer. If there are any issues, they can treat them before they develop.

Adopting a tooth-friendly diet

Your diet has a significant impact on your oral health. There are certain foods and drinks that are beneficial for your teeth and others that aren’t so good. Try and steer clear of sugary and acidic foods and drinks, especially between meals. Hit your recommended daily calcium intake, and drink plenty of water. If you have any questions about which foods are harmful for your teeth, contact your dentist. If you are having a sweet treat, make sure you eat it just after your main meal. When you eat, your enamel softens as a result of bacteria releasing harmful acids. If you snack between meals, this means that your teeth are under constant attack.

We all want an Instagram-worthy smile. If you’re keen to look after your pearly whites, take these tips on board. Take time to clean your teeth twice a day, and be gentle when you brush. Visit your dentist every 6-12 months, and spare a thought for your teeth and gums when you’re doing your grocery shopping.
