Cruelty Free Mother’s Day Gift Guide

by

Hey my loves! Mother’s Day is on May 12th and I wanted to make a gift guide featuring cruelty free products to help you out when shopping for gifts this year! I decided to break it into three categories: fragrance, skincare & body care – so you’ll be able to find something that your Mother will love! These are all different price ranges too so I’m sure something will fit into your budget. I personally love shopping at Ulta for beauty products since they always have a coupon available and typically have some pretty great deals. Right now, if you spend $40 on fragrance, you’ll get a free tote with your purchase!

Fragrance

Marc Jacobs Daisy Roller Ball Trio Box – $45

I think that roller ball sets are a really nice gift! You get the option to try out a few different fragrances without having to buy a full sized bottle or get a tiny sample. This makes it easier for someone to really try out the fragrance to see if they like it. I personally LOVE the smell of the Daisy perfume. I haven’t tried the other versions, but I’m sure they smell great too!

DefineMe Fragrance Roller Ball Sampler Set – $21

Here is another roller ball sampler set. I haven’t tried DefineMe yet but I’ve really wanted to after hearing a review from Rhian HY! I think this would be a good gift because there’s lots of different scents to choose from so there has to be one in there that she’ll like…maybe she’ll even share with you! I also love the illustrations and “personality” that they’ve given each fragrance.

Harvey Prince Hello Perfume – $57

So this fragrance isn’t available at Ulta, but I just had to include it. I got a sample of “Hello” in a box from somewhere and I absolutely fell in love with it. It is such a gorgeous scent and it’s definitely perfect for Spring. Harvey Prince is cruelty free & vegan and I like their philosophy.

Skincare

Andalou Naturals Age Defying Kit – $19.99

Skincare is important no matter what your age is. I think that this age defying kit would be perfect as a Mother’s day gift! This kit includes a cleansing milk, a toning refresher, an enzyme mask, a peptide perfecting cream and a night repair cream – everything you’d need to start a new skincare regime!

The Body Stop Drops of Youth Set – $49

This is also a good set to get into a skincare routine! I love The Body Shop and so does my mom, so I know that this would be perfect for her. It comes with a youth concentrate and and a face cream.

Michael Todd Beauty 3-in-1 Anti-Aging Eye Corrector – $89

So this is the most expensive thing in this gift guide, but I do think that it’s worth the price. I got my sister a Soniclear from Michael Todd a few years ago for Christmas and she loves it – so I know that Michael Todd is a reliable brand. So this set come with an intensive eye cream treatment meant to reduce fine lines, dark circles and puffiness. This set also comes with a rechargeable Sonic eraser which is an “infusion” device that will make your products reach the deeper layers of your skin.

Body Care

Ulta Beauty Coconut Cream Body Wash – $9.50

You can never go wrong with giving body wash as a gift! It’s frustrating when you run out without realizing and don’t have any back ups to use (unless this only happens to me? hm…) I’ve tried this body wash before in a travel size when I went on a cruise. It smells great and works well – they have other scents too so pick what your mom would like best! These are a great alternative to Bath & Body Works who are NOT cruelty free.

Ulta Beauty Peppermint Moisturizing Foot Balm – $12.50

This is unfortunately sold out while this post is going up, but try to see if you can find it in your local Ulta store! I think this would be a great item to throw into a pedicure basket that you could easily gift your Mom. Grab a couple nail polishes (I suggest ORLY or Wet N Wild!), a nail file or two, and a bath salt so she can soak her feet. The possibilities are endless!

Ulta Beauty Brightening Vitamin C Body Scrub – $18.50

I looooove body scrubs. I think this one would be perfect as a Mother’s Day gift. You could also add this to a basket with some lotion and a new pair of slippers for a personalized gift!

That’s it for the Mother’s Day Gift Guide! I hope you enjoyed the post. Did anything in this guide spark your interest? Let me know 🙂 Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

tarte Build Your Own Kit Review/Haul

by

Hey my loves! It’s been quite a while, per usual. I’ve really been focusing on my future in graphic design and just taking some time for me (since my mental health hasn’t been the best lately). Recently tarte brought back their beauty kit set where you can pick 6 full sized items and a makeup bag at a HECK of a deal. I get their e-mail notifications so I knew when it went live, so make sure you definitely do that for when they do it again in the future – you won’t regret it. You’ll also want to be early to the deal because foundation shades can sell out fast.

I grabbed the pink bag they were offering mainly because of the cute tassel detailing it has. This bag is also nicely sized so I’m happy to have it!Here are the goodies I got! A foundation, a concealer, a mascara, an eyeliner, a lipstick and a highlighter.

I was super stoked to see that they had the Shape Tape in this deal since it is a newer release – and they had it in the lightest shade! I really wanted to try this foundation out, and I’m glad I did. I really like the way it feels on the skin, it clings to some dry patches but that’s sort of normal but I was shocked at how it doesn’t separate on the skin like the Rainforest of the Sea foundation does. The Shape Tape foundation comes in a matte formula or a hydrating one, I clearly got the hydrating one (even though I do get oily sometimes, but I find matte foundations look terrible on me). Since I have the Rainforest of the Sea Foundation (hydrating as well), I wanted to see how comparable they are.

So my Rainforest of the Sea foundation is little bit old, so maybe it’s not fair to compare it to the new foundation – but I’mma still do it. I got the Shape Tape foundation in Porcelain, the lightest shade tarte has to offer. At the time that I bought Rainforest of the Sea, the lightest shade was Fair Neutral but they have now added Porcelain as an option.

So the left swatch is of the Rainforest of the Sea in Fair-Neutral, the left is of Shape Tape in Porcelain. You can definitely see the huge color difference, even though these shades (again with the ROTS being older, I’m not sure if that would be a factor to the color). You can also see the consistency difference between the two, ROTS is definitely a serum-like foundation, well really they call it a water foundation vs the shape tape foundation which you can see is thick. I think the color of the shape tape foundation in porcelain leans on the yellow side, but I can make it work. I also noticed that it doesn’t oxidize, which is a plus for my pale babes!

I picked up the Maracuja Oil Creaseless Concealer in Fair and to be honest, I can’t remember what the other options for concealer were. I’m kind of bummed because I feel like this isn’t light enough for me to be a concealer/highlight color but maybe for spots it’ll work. I wanted to compare swatches to the other tarte concealers I have, so peep below for that!

The maracuja oil concealer leans more pink while the other two lean more yellow.

Here they are swatched, left to right: maracuja oil concealer in fair, shape tape concealer in fair, and aquacealer in fair. (Major color discrepancies down the line, lol) I haven’t really tried the concealer out yet, but from the swatch I did it seems like a thick concealer (which I feel like would make it crease, but okay tarte you do you).

Here’s a comparison of the foundations and concealers all together, since two of the foundations have concealers form the same line.

I’m always on the hunt for a liquid eyeliner with a felt tip so I added this to my bag pretty darn quickly. Plus, who could resist the packaging?!

This is the Sex Kitten Liquid Eyeliner and I’m in love with it. Nuff said.

The lippie I chose was the Limited Edition Tarteist Quick Dry Lip Paint in Festival. When they launched the festival collection (like a year ago? already…wow!) I definitely was interested in some of the products but just never jumped the gun. This color is super pretty so I thought I’d try it out.

It’s a gorgeous mavuey-nude, which are my go-tos. I haven’t worn it on the lips yet, however the swatch of it felt marvelous. (Rae, are you even a beauty blogger? Wyd sweetie?)

One of the items you’re able to pick is a cheek product, since I have some blushes that I rarely use I opted for the highlighter option! This doesn’t seem to be available on their site anymore, so I couldn’t link it – but it is from last years festival collection. I really like the compact design and the box design is too cute.

Here it is swatched – it’s pretty subtle but also very pretty. I like it.

The last thing I was able to add to my bag was a mascara. A few they had for options I have already tried so I grabbed something new! This is the Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara, I was drawn to it because of the packaging and the claims. I really do like the mascara and recommend it, however…

I have the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara already and it’s been a holy grail of mine. I noticed that the brushes between the two mascaras are incredibly similar and they give similar results, so I was kind of bummed – however, they are both awesome products! I think the LCL formula is drier than the Gifted formula. If you already have one of these though, there’s no need to buy both of them since they are pretty similar.

Overall, a successful tarte haul! The value of these items alone would be well over $100, but with their awesome deal I only paid $67 for all of this :O

I hope you enjoyed the post! What’s your fave product from tarte? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

Nolaskinsentials Review *

by

Hey my loves! It’s been a while since I did a beauty related review/haul, so I’m so happy that I finally have some time today to write this post about some goodies I got from Nolaskinsentials a while ago. If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably noticed that I’ve been raving about some of these products from Nolaskinsentials and how I’ve incorporated them into my skin care regimen.

Birth control has totally changed my skin, so I’ve been breaking out a lot more and my skin has become oily. I know that there’s not much you can do about hormonal acne but these products have helped to clear up my breakouts quicker.

Nolaskinsentials is a small business located in New York. Everything is handcrafted, plant-based (hell yes!) and affordable.

Clarifying Face Wash – $18

This is my fave face wash at the moment! My skin feels SO clean after using it and I’ve definitely seen an improvement in my skin when using it. It’s ingredients cleanse your skin of excess sebum, bacteria and dirt without stripping your skin of it’s natural oils and moisture (which is a problem I’ve had with past cleansers targeted for acne). This cleanser is suitable for all skin types and I love that it’s a foam. Can’t recommend it enough! They also have a glycolic cleanser for blackheads and enlarged pores if you don’t need something that targets zits. (Check our their other cleansers here!)

Green Tea Antioxidant Face Mask – $15

I’m a mask junkie. I love using them to unwind and of course, to help out my skin! This mask is awesome. It made my skin feel so soft and smooth and my pores looked so much better the next morning. I like that it helped to absorb my excess oil and reduce my redness. A little bit goes a long way, so this jar will last you a while (a total plus).

Glycolic Night Creme – $17

If you’ve been here for a while, you probably remember my past reviews of glycolic products (especially the Nip & Fab exfoliating pads) and how much I love them! Glycolic acid is awesome for skincare products because it gently exfoliates to reveal glowing, smooth skin. Exfoliating is also good to help reduce the appearance of acne scars or dark spots. I’ve been using this after I tone my face with their Witches Brew Toner and before I apply moisturizer or an oil. So far, I’m loving the results!

Iconic Elixir – $21

Unfortunately, I’m a picker. If I have a zit or a spot on my face, I just can’t help but pick at it which is terrible, I know. Because of this, I’ve been getting some scarring (which is a total duh moment Rae). Oils are super beneficial when it comes to scars which is why I was super stoked to try out the Iconic Elixir. It’s full of natural oils that won’t clog your pores and will help to reduce the appearance of acne scars + control your oil production. I was kind of skeptical at first to put an oil on my face, but I’m so glad I tried it out because it has made a difference in my skin. I use this after cleansing my face with the clarifying face wash and after I spritz on the toner water. It absorbs so quickly and won’t leave you feeling icky. I definitely recommend the Iconic Elixir if you’re looking for something to control oil!

Witches Brew Toner – $15

This toner is my absolute favorite. I’m still a lover of the Tea Tree Water from Lush, but I feel like it wasn’t incredibly effective – it works, but not as well as the Witches Brew Toner! This toner water is specially formulated for oily + acne prone skin, however, they do have other toners for different skin types. I used this after cleansing and do two sprays all over my face, avoiding the eye area, I follow it with some of the iconic elixir to further help my skin. I will definitely be repurchasing this because I love it so much!

Overall, I’m so happy that Nolaskinsentials reached out to me! I’m so glad I was able to try out these products because they are so amazing and I love the brand (Follow them on Instagram, their stories are the bomb). I hope this review helped you out and that you’ll pick up some of their products because they are so worth it (and supporting small businesses is oh so important!)

I hope you enjoyed the post! Do you see anything that you want to try? Let me know!

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

Disclaimer: Yes, these products were sent to me to review on behalf of Nolaskinsentials, but sponsorships/items sent to me do not alter my opinion in any way. I’m here to help you (my readers) to find new products that you may have never heard about. I am all for giving 100% reviews, whether I’m paid for the review, sent the item or I purchase it myself. Just something to keep in mind for my past/future reviews.
