tarte Build Your Own Kit Review/Haul

by

Hey my loves! It’s been quite a while, per usual. I’ve really been focusing on my future in graphic design and just taking some time for me (since my mental health hasn’t been the best lately). Recently tarte brought back their beauty kit set where you can pick 6 full sized items and a makeup bag at a HECK of a deal. I get their e-mail notifications so I knew when it went live, so make sure you definitely do that for when they do it again in the future – you won’t regret it. You’ll also want to be early to the deal because foundation shades can sell out fast.

I grabbed the pink bag they were offering mainly because of the cute tassel detailing it has. This bag is also nicely sized so I’m happy to have it!Here are the goodies I got! A foundation, a concealer, a mascara, an eyeliner, a lipstick and a highlighter.

I was super stoked to see that they had the Shape Tape in this deal since it is a newer release – and they had it in the lightest shade! I really wanted to try this foundation out, and I’m glad I did. I really like the way it feels on the skin, it clings to some dry patches but that’s sort of normal but I was shocked at how it doesn’t separate on the skin like the Rainforest of the Sea foundation does. The Shape Tape foundation comes in a matte formula or a hydrating one, I clearly got the hydrating one (even though I do get oily sometimes, but I find matte foundations look terrible on me). Since I have the Rainforest of the Sea Foundation (hydrating as well), I wanted to see how comparable they are.

So my Rainforest of the Sea foundation is little bit old, so maybe it’s not fair to compare it to the new foundation – but I’mma still do it. I got the Shape Tape foundation in Porcelain, the lightest shade tarte has to offer. At the time that I bought Rainforest of the Sea, the lightest shade was Fair Neutral but they have now added Porcelain as an option.

So the left swatch is of the Rainforest of the Sea in Fair-Neutral, the left is of Shape Tape in Porcelain. You can definitely see the huge color difference, even though these shades (again with the ROTS being older, I’m not sure if that would be a factor to the color). You can also see the consistency difference between the two, ROTS is definitely a serum-like foundation, well really they call it a water foundation vs the shape tape foundation which you can see is thick. I think the color of the shape tape foundation in porcelain leans on the yellow side, but I can make it work. I also noticed that it doesn’t oxidize, which is a plus for my pale babes!

I picked up the Maracuja Oil Creaseless Concealer in Fair and to be honest, I can’t remember what the other options for concealer were. I’m kind of bummed because I feel like this isn’t light enough for me to be a concealer/highlight color but maybe for spots it’ll work. I wanted to compare swatches to the other tarte concealers I have, so peep below for that!

The maracuja oil concealer leans more pink while the other two lean more yellow.

Here they are swatched, left to right: maracuja oil concealer in fair, shape tape concealer in fair, and aquacealer in fair. (Major color discrepancies down the line, lol) I haven’t really tried the concealer out yet, but from the swatch I did it seems like a thick concealer (which I feel like would make it crease, but okay tarte you do you).

Here’s a comparison of the foundations and concealers all together, since two of the foundations have concealers form the same line.

I’m always on the hunt for a liquid eyeliner with a felt tip so I added this to my bag pretty darn quickly. Plus, who could resist the packaging?!

This is the Sex Kitten Liquid Eyeliner and I’m in love with it. Nuff said.

The lippie I chose was the Limited Edition Tarteist Quick Dry Lip Paint in Festival. When they launched the festival collection (like a year ago? already…wow!) I definitely was interested in some of the products but just never jumped the gun. This color is super pretty so I thought I’d try it out.

It’s a gorgeous mavuey-nude, which are my go-tos. I haven’t worn it on the lips yet, however the swatch of it felt marvelous. (Rae, are you even a beauty blogger? Wyd sweetie?)

One of the items you’re able to pick is a cheek product, since I have some blushes that I rarely use I opted for the highlighter option! This doesn’t seem to be available on their site anymore, so I couldn’t link it – but it is from last years festival collection. I really like the compact design and the box design is too cute.

Here it is swatched – it’s pretty subtle but also very pretty. I like it.

The last thing I was able to add to my bag was a mascara. A few they had for options I have already tried so I grabbed something new! This is the Gifted Amazonian Clay Smart Mascara, I was drawn to it because of the packaging and the claims. I really do like the mascara and recommend it, however…

I have the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara already and it’s been a holy grail of mine. I noticed that the brushes between the two mascaras are incredibly similar and they give similar results, so I was kind of bummed – however, they are both awesome products! I think the LCL formula is drier than the Gifted formula. If you already have one of these though, there’s no need to buy both of them since they are pretty similar.

Overall, a successful tarte haul! The value of these items alone would be well over $100, but with their awesome deal I only paid $67 for all of this :O

I hope you enjoyed the post! What’s your fave product from tarte? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

Pair’d Beauty Review *

by

Hey my loves! I’m so sorry about being MIA lately – I’m working full time and going to school part-time so my days are pretty busy, but the semester is finally over for me so now I’m able to have some time for myself. If you didn’t know already, I’m an ambassador for Pair’d Beauty. Pair’d Beauty is a small business that specializes in vegan, fair trade, natural products that are all made in small batches by hand <3 I’m super excited to share all of the goodies that Pair’d was kind enough to send me to try out!

I’ll start off by sharing my favorite item first! This is the Sleep Cleanse Face Serum that’s great for acne-prone skin. I was always afraid to try a serum or oils on my face because I figured they would clog my pores and make my acne worse but this totally changed that. It smells like lavender (my fave) which is why it’s a PM serum, so it helps you drift off into a wonderful sleep while also treating your skin. This serum helps to reduce discoloration and scars which is super helpful. 10/10 do recommend.

Here is another one of my favorites. This is the shower burst in Spotlight which smells like oranges and peppermint (amazing combo) to revitalize your senses. Shower bursts are kind of like bath bombs but if you’re in a pinch and want the effects of a bath bomb, shower burst are definitely for you. This one smells so good and it was so refreshing. I can’t wait to try out the different scent options!

I’m wide awake, thanks to this coffee sugar scrub! I’m all about scrubs, I love them so much. Coffee scrubs are especially my favorite since they smell so good and can help me wake up. Do you know why coffee is an amazing scrub? The caffeine in it helps to tighten the skin which can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Definitely pick this scrub up to make sure your skin is looking & feeling great for the winter.

Bubble bars are great for adding bubbles to your bath (who woulda thought?!) They’re super easy to use and can last up to a couple uses, depending on how you decide to break them up. I really enjoyed the scent of this!

This is the Fresh Glow Setting Spray. I was amazed at how well it worked! This one will give you a dewy finish, which I love. It smells great, didn’t irritate my skin and actually did it’s job. I’m happy to have a setting spray that’s made with natural products, rather than alcohol and other junk.

The only item that didn’t agree with my skin was the Rose Hydrosol Spray Toner, I’m not really sure if it was because I used it with another product or maybe my skin is just sensitive to rose/flowers. I have been too afraid to try it out again on my face since it made it red last time, but I did try it on my wrist and didn’t have any reactions. So *maybe* it’s because of the other product I used it with. However, I’m sure that if you’ve used a product like this before and you’ve liked it, you’ll probably like this one too. (I personally have never used a flower hydrosol before!)

That’s all for this little haul & review. I hope you enjoyed reading about a new brand and their products!

Since I’m an ambassador for Pair’d Beauty, you can use my code “RAE15” to save 15% off your purchase! I definitely suggest the face serum and the shower bursts – but Pair’d has so much more to choose from!

Thanks so much for reading, as always <3

Melt Proof Makeup Tips for This Summer | Guest Post

by

We all love summer, but our makeup doesn’t. One of the downsides of hot weather is melting makeup – a faux pas to be avoided at all costs. To help you deal with this unpleasant problem, we’ve compiled a list of useful ideas you should consider.

Get a primer

A makeup primer is an incredibly useful product if you know how to use it properly. The way to do it is to apply it gently before putting on your makeup, but after you’ve slathered some moisturizer on your face. All you need is a pea-size dot of oil-free primer that will not grease up your skin. It can be applied in seconds and its effect will last for hours. It prevents your makeup from flaking and makes it last much longer, which can be a real challenge during hot summer days.

Go light

The best advice for boiling-hot days is to go light on your makeup. No matter how useful makeup can be, your skin will appreciate the opportunity to breathe without the layers of primer, foundation, concealer and other products. Moreover, the less makeup you put on your face, the less makeup can melt onto your clothes – as simple as that. Dab a bit of concealer on the problematic areas and wear a wide smile; most of the time, that’s all you really need.

Pick creamy shadows

Powdery makeup is a no-no in the summertime because it easily becomes cakey and heavy in hot weather. Instead, go for creamy shadows which are more durable, and they also glisten nicely in the sun. Moreover, keep in mind that having the right brushes is half work done. Even if you’re not a professional, investing in high-quality makeup tools like Sigma brushes can really make a difference. Creamy eye shadows also tend to look more lively than the regular, powdery ones.

Make it waterproof

Waterproof makeup is taking the world by storm and there’s a good reason for it. This type of makeup is resilient and can get you through any weather and setting. Moreover, if you decide to go for a quick dip, you won’t get the famous racoon eyes. With or without water, this is the best way to ensure durability. A waterproof mascara is particularly a must.

Expect the unexpected

To make sure you can deal with any makeup crisis that might arise, always carry the essential ‘repair’ kit in your purse. Mini-sized packages of makeup always come in handy in times of crisis. Another thing to keep in mind, and in your purse, is blotting paper ‒ the best ally against an oily forehead and nose. Apply it regularly to your T-zone in order to prevent any unwanted shine.

Forget about powder blush

As we’ve already said, powdery products are not a good choice during hot weather. Blush, however, is one of those products that you can rarely do without. Compensate by opting for cream or gel blush that you can rub in carefully to ensure a long-lasting effect.

Choose a liquid eyeliner

Some women shy away from liquid eyeliners since they take some getting used to, which can be slightly frustrating if patience is not one of your virtues. However, in the summertime, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, since liquid liners won’t smudge as easily as pencil liners tend to.

Trust vibrant colors

Summer is the time when we’re not afraid to flaunt our lively colored clothes and funky patterns. Similarly, tinting your lips in bright colors or experimenting with vibrant eye shades is something you should definitely try. This will not only spice up your look and make it more suitable for summer, but also refresh your whole appearance, especially if neutral and balanced colors are your usual choice.

Use these easy tricks to prevent your makeup from smudging and melting in hot weather. Once you’ve done all the steps, kick back and enjoy the sun knowing that your glowing look is here to stay.
