I’ve been meaning to post this review for a while now (I kept teasing my instagram followers about it, but it’s finally here!) I guess I just really wanted to try out the products more than once and give a decent review for you all.
tarte has quickly become one of my favorite brands. Their products are vegan and cruelty free (they are owned by a parent company though). They have tons of different makeup products and skincare products and I literally want everything they have. (Plus, their packaging is awesome).
I decided to pick up the Rainforest of the Sea water foundation, since I do have dry skin. I’m also not a huge fan of foundations since sometimes I feel like they’re too “heavy” on my face, so when I saw that this was a lightweight foundation I just had to pick it up. Their website states that this foundation is: “A lightweight, full coverage hydrating foundation infused with tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea™ complex and non-chemical SPF 15 sunscreen.”
I’m also super happy that it has a non-chemical SPF in it, and this foundation is honestly exactly what I’ve been looking for. They have 12 shades and a very disappointing selection of darker shades (WTH tarte?) You get 1 ounce of product for $39 (I bought it with a 30% off coupon they had). It has a dropper which was new to me, but I kind of like it.
I have the lightest shade available (fair neutral) but it’s not quite light enough for me, so I do have to add a foundation mixer to it. I honestly love this foundation. It looks like skin, it’s not cakey and doesn’t cling to my problem areas on my face. It feels so lightweight and doesn’t feel tacky on the skin once it’s dry (one of the things that I dislike about foundations). I don’t apply a primer when I use this, but it’s not really necessary since this foundation stays put all day. It’s honestly a dream for dry skin and I probably won’t try anything else now.
Here is what tarte’s website says that the aquacealer: “A lightweight, 12-hour concealing serum offering buildable, medium coverage with skin-soothing benefits.”
There are 6 shades of the aquacealer, again the lightest one still being a little bit too dark for me, but I do manage to make it work. I love the applicator for the concealer and how lightweight it is. I’m not going to lie, I really don’t think that it has “buildable” medium coverage, I would definitely say that it’s light coverage (although I really haven’t tried to build it up). It does crease since it’s water based, so make sure to set your under eye area right away. I’ve noticed that it really doesn’t stay put all day and that my dark circle start to peek through (maybe I need to try the color correcting palette from this line, but anyways). I do enjoy it though, I don’t use it on acne spots just because it isn’t an amazing color for me, but it does do a good job to brighten up the eyes when first applied.
Overall, I really do like these two products and do recommend them if you’re looking for a light weight foundation with pretty good coverage. The color selection isn’t huge, but maybe tarte will expand that someday? We can only hope.
Thanks so much for reading & I hope you enjoyed the post!
