Spring is in full swing, and summer is just around the corner, which can only mean one thing – it is high time you up your skincare game and make some changes in comparison to the skin regimen that was ruling during wintertime. The popularity of organic and natural skincare companies and their products is soaring through the roof – and with good reason, as with natural you know your skin is safe from potentially harmful chemicals and tended to gently and with tenderness. As much as we are appreciative of this new trend and the fact that companies care about the environment and the safety of our skin, why not bring your skincare game to an even higher level and make some of the beauty concoctions in your very own home? Test these recipes that have been tried and tested, and we guarantee, your skin will adore them. The ultimate goal is to stay safe, even save some money, and ultimately simplify your skincare routine without compromising quality.
First things first
Whichever number of steps your skincare routine entails, everyone is always in need of a great facial wash, and it is easier to make than you might think. This recipe includes ingredients that help clarify and tone the skin, as well as ingredients that are extra-gentle and help maintain skin’s natural balance, making it suitable for even those with the most sensitive of skins.
Here is what you need: 1 cup filtered or previously boiled (now room temp) water. 1/4 cup liquid castile soap; all-natural, extremely concentrated soap made from 100% plant oils. 5 teaspoons of jojoba oil followed by 2 tablespoons of raw honey: a wonderful antibacterial that helps to gently eliminate breakout-causing bacteria, and also helps calm the skin. This gives the wash its honey color. Next in line is 1 teaspoon of tea tree oil: another great, all-natural antibacterial, antimicrobial, and antifungal that will not only help kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin, but also help preserve the wash. 15 drops lavender essential oil: great for all skin types, it helps calm inflammation and eliminates bacteria. Finally, 10 drops rosemary essential oil: another great, all-natural antibacterial.
One thing to bear in mind is that the ingredients should be added in the order they were listed. Stir the mixture gently, mixing everything together, pour into an empty face-wash container and voila! One or two pumps will be more than sufficient as the wash is very concentrated, which also means it will last a long time.
Next in line…
Is of course, toner! Easy to make, and with fewer ingredients than the wash, and you probably have the ingredients in your pantry. Here goes; you need 3-4 tablespoons of chopped fresh mint 2 tablespoons of raw apple cider vinegar and 1 and a quarter cups of water. Place the mint and apple cider vinegar in a small mason jar or some other jar with a screw-top lid and let it sit at room temperature for a week. The mint will infuse the vinegar and give it a lovely scent. Strain the mixture into a large measuring cup and add the water. Stir well and pour into a clean bottle or jar and store in a cool place and apply every day with a cotton ball or cotton pads. There are a lot of other wonderful recipes for different conditions and skin types you should try and find the one that works for you.
Lock in moisture
Unfortunately, there are some products we cannot concoct at home. One of those are moisturizers that both lock in moisture and serve to even your skin tone and bring out your natural glow. Luckily, among many brands that offer synthetic products, there are more and more companies that have turned to providing natural skincare products that are safe for you to use and give amazing results at nourishing and protecting your skin. One such product is Dr Hauschka Moisturizing Day Cream that even organic and natural-loving celebs like Jennifer Aniston swear by due to its amazing soothing effects. If you cannot make it – buy it, but be sure to buy natural products with a list of ingredients you can actually pronounce and you know with absolute certainty are safe and effective.
This product is not something we use (or should use) on daily basis, but it is one that shows your skin just how much you love it by providing some extra pampering once a week. You’ve probably guessed it – it is face mask we are talking about, and the one we have in store for you is super easy to make. Its main ingredient is – honey! Honey is a wonderful ingredient for natural homemade facial masks as it is a natural humectant, attracting moisture to the skin, and has valuable skin care benefits, helping to protect, restore and rejuvenate the skin. For all skin types, the best mixture is 1 tablespoon of honey, 1 tablespoon of olive oil and one egg yolk. Mix the ingredients until you get a homogenous paste, then simply apply and keep for twenty minutes, after which you just gently remove the mask using warm water. Fresh, soft and replenished skin in less than half an hour!
Here you have it ladies, easy-peasy, so do not waste any time, get those hands busy and start stirring your new favorite products.
