So you’ve already got your skin routine sorted. But have you thought about the perfect routine for your hair? Most girls simply wash their hair, dry it, and think they are ready to go. But there is so much more to perfecting your hair routine! To help you find a routine that works for you, here are some of my top tips.
Don’t Over Shampoo
Most girls wash their hair every other day. Some people I know even wash their hair every day! But, the truth is that this is overdoing it. Ideally, you should only be washing your hair when it really needs it. For most girls, this is probably every three or four days. You may be able to wait even longer if you have curly or dry hair. When you do wash, remember not to use too much shampoo. If you do, you will find it harder to wash out. You could easily miss some, which could result in your hair becoming greasy rather quickly. I know that dry shampoo is very popular with us busy gals, but I would recommend to stay away from it every once in awhile because it might do more harm than good.
Protect Against Heat
Your hair takes a lot of battering when you use a hair dryer, straighteners, or curlers. So it is absolutely crucial that you use an effective heat protection product. You can find ones that you can spray onto your hair or creams that you need to rub in. If you don’t protect your hair, you will find that it becomes very dry and can damage very easily. You will also find that you develop split ends a lot if you do not use a heat protectant. Choosing good quality hair dryers and straighteners will also help prevent your hair from getting too damaged. You can check out reviews to figure out which hairdryer is best for you on sites like Oomphed. I recommend Paul Mitchell for a cruelty free hair care brand. 🙂
Don’t Brush Too Much
Not only should you use shampoo sparingly, but you should also brush your hair sparingly as well. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, you won’t be creating so much static electricity in your hair. And that causes all those flyaways. So less brushing will help your hair look less frizzy. If you feel like you can’t go long without brushing your hair, use a comb. Combs are a lot less damaging to hair. I also recommend using a WIDE tooth comb for when your hair is wet. It is less likely to cause damage. (Also, try not to comb it out while it’s soaking wet – let it dry a little bit).
Your Hairdresser Is Your Best Friend
There is no way you can completely prevent split ends. No matter how well you look after your locks! So make sure you visit your hairdresser as often as possible so that you can deal with any that you do notice. Ideally, you need to get a trim every six weeks. If you can’t afford that, then every three months is perfectly fine. Feeling really pushed for money or time? Don’t be afraid of doing a DIY trim. There are plenty of guides on YouTube and other sites.
Don’t Color Your Hair
Sure, coloring your hair is a great way of being creative and creating your very own look. But dyes can actually damage your hair quite a bit. And once certain colors are dyed, they never come back. Even if you let the dye grow out naturally. I personally color my hair but try not to do it too often. You can also opt for DIY hair coloring/lightening techniques. Lush has some options for darkening your hair with henna!
