My Favorite Cruelty Free Products Under $10

by

crueltyfree-under10

Hey lovelies! I’ve been kind of in a blogging funk lately, but I’m working on it. I’m trying to have back up posts so that when I really can’t think of what to blog, I can just post those instead. I’m thinking about either making a video or a blog post (or both) about why I want to go on a spending ban (mainly for beauty products), does that sound interesting to anyone?

But anyways, here I’m going to show you a few items $10 and under that I love and that are cruelty free!

Milani Prep + Set + Go Transparent Powder ($9.99)

I bought the Milani powder a couple months ago to replace a non-cruelty free translucent powder that I had and I really really love it. It’s a great setting and mattifying powder that doesn’t overdry the skin. I try to focus this underneath my eyes to set my concealer, just because if I put it all over my face it does make it feel dry and tight (but I think that’s just because I have such dry skin). I think it would be great for those of you with oily skin or if you have an issue with your makeup sliding off.

Hask Hair Bamboo Oil Shampoo + Conditioner ($6 each)

I love love LOVE Hask’s products and now my sister has found a new love for them too. I love how inexpensive their products are. The quality is absolutely superb for what you pay and I don’t think I’ll ever switch to another hair care brand. I’m currently using up the Bamboo Oil collection that I have and I think I will be purchasing the Keratin collection once I use this set up!

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream ($6) Stockholm is pictured above.

NYX is extremely affordable and they have a wide variety of products. I’m a huge fan of their lip products, especially their soft matte lip creams. They have decent lasting power and come in a ton of different colors. I love them because they aren’t drying on the lips and aren’t too matte (to the point where you have cracking lips). I think they’re a staple lip product.

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Highlighter ($8) Stole The Show is pictured above.

Colourpop has been one of my go to brands lately, because of their price and quality. I picked up one of their highlighters and fell in love and now I’m always reaching for it. They have a ton of unique colors and a couple different finishes so I definitely think they’re worth checking out!

Pacifica Kale Detox Face Cleanser ($10)

Pacifica is my favorite skin care brand. They have masks, cleansers, and moisturizers and they even have some makeup products. I love love love their cleansers because they aren’t too drying on the skin, they smell great & they do their job. Definitely worth the money!

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip ($6) Echo Park is pictured above.

Again, I love Colourpop and their Ultra Satin Lipsticks are my go-to now. I have a couple different colors from them and I love every single one of them. I feel like they’re super wearable and comfortable on the lips (I didn’t like the ultra mattes – so these are the bomb.com.)

What are your favorite products under $10? Let me know in the comments below 🙂

Hope you enjoyed the post & thanks for reading <3

tarte Rainforest of the Sea Water Foundation + Aquacealer Review

by

I’ve been meaning to post this review for a while now (I kept teasing my instagram followers about it, but it’s finally here!) I guess I just really wanted to try out the products more than once and give a decent review for you all.

tarte has quickly become one of my favorite brands. Their products are vegan and cruelty free (they are owned by a parent company though). They have tons of different makeup products and skincare products and I literally want everything they have. (Plus, their packaging is awesome).

I decided to pick up the Rainforest of the Sea water foundation, since I do have dry skin. I’m also not a huge fan of foundations since sometimes I feel like they’re too “heavy” on my face, so when I saw that this was a lightweight foundation I just had to pick it up. Their website states that this foundation is: “A lightweight, full coverage hydrating foundation infused with tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea™ complex and non-chemical SPF 15 sunscreen.”

I’m also super happy that it has a non-chemical SPF in it, and this foundation is honestly exactly what I’ve been looking for. They have 12 shades and a very disappointing selection of darker shades (WTH tarte?) You get 1 ounce of product for $39 (I bought it with a 30% off coupon they had). It has a dropper which was new to me, but I kind of like it.

I have the lightest shade available (fair neutral) but it’s not quite light enough for me, so I do have to add a foundation mixer to it. I honestly love this foundation. It looks like skin, it’s not cakey and doesn’t cling to my problem areas on my face. It feels so lightweight and doesn’t feel tacky on the skin once it’s dry (one of the things that I dislike about foundations). I don’t apply a primer when I use this, but it’s not really necessary since this foundation stays put all day. It’s honestly a dream for dry skin and I probably won’t try anything else now.

Here is what tarte’s website says that the aquacealer: “A lightweight, 12-hour concealing serum offering buildable, medium coverage with skin-soothing benefits.”

There are 6 shades of the aquacealer, again the lightest one still being a little bit too dark for me, but I do manage to make it work. I love the applicator for the concealer and how lightweight it is. I’m not going to lie, I really don’t think that it has “buildable” medium coverage, I would definitely say that it’s light coverage (although I really haven’t tried to build it up). It does crease since it’s water based, so make sure to set your under eye area right away. I’ve noticed that it really doesn’t stay put all day and that my dark circle start to peek through (maybe I need to try the color correcting palette from this line, but anyways). I do enjoy it though, I don’t use it on acne spots just because it isn’t an amazing color for me, but it does do a good job to brighten up the eyes when first applied.

Overall, I really do like these two products and do recommend them if you’re looking for a light weight foundation with pretty good coverage. The color selection isn’t huge, but maybe tarte will expand that someday? We can only hope.

Thanks so much for reading & I hope you enjoyed the post!

LITTLE BOX OF GOOD | bonJOY May Monthly

by

2016-06-01 10.39.51 2016-06-01 10.40.10

Hey lovelies! How are you doing today? Good? Great! I’m doing fabulous.

Screen Shot 2016-06-01 at 10.23.43 PM

(from their website)

Today I wanted to show you a special box, that I’m very happy that I found. bonJOY is a monthly or seasonal box filled with goodies that DO GOOD! (They also have bitty bundles that contain a few items and are the perfect gift item.)

You may think that slavery is a thing of the past – but think again. Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, either for forced labor or sex trafficking. Every 30 seconds, someone becomes a victim of modern-day slavery. (Source) It’s a scary and a real thing. The products in these monthly or seasonal boxes do good for trafficked, exploited and at-risk women around the world and that’s something that I totally support. I’m all about empowerment, and helping others in need.

Now that you’ve heard the story, I’m sure you want to see what’s in this little box of good

2016-06-01 10.41.13

Above is an inspirational quote, which was designed by Cassandra from Chic for Good (her blog is great, so do check it out!) I love cute stationery that I can hang up near my desk (which I will be doing with this).

2016-06-01 10.41.46

On the back of the print from Chic for Good lists all of the products in the box and displays the current give-back partner (they donate $1 from every box to the partner and you have the option to make a donation as well).

2016-06-01 10.42.54-2

Here’s a ton of information about the products/companies featured in this month’s box that was in the yellow envelope!

2016-06-01 10.44.21

First up is this himalayan sea salt bath soak (that smells fabulous!) Revive donates a portion of every sale to provide job training skills to women exiting the trafficking trade. Revive has tons of different types of soaps, bath soaks, lip balms and other bath goodies.

I’m a sucker for jewelry, so take a look at this super simple, but super chic vegan bracelet from BADALABADALA has housewares and beautiful jewelry. Definitely check out their store and support them, because it truly is for a great cause.

I like to smell good, do you? So you really can’t ever go wrong with perfume in a subscription box. This is from GLOW for a cause. It’s a rollerball perfume in their scent wish and it smells spectacular. I didn’t even put a whole lot on my wrist when I first tried it this morning, and I can STILL smell it at 11 at night (iiiiiincredible). GLOW has more than just perfume though! They have candles, soaking salts, body care and even stuff for babies! GLOW donates 5% of purchases to a select non-profit (that you get to choose at checkout).

Again, I’m a sucker for cute stationery like items. I was pumped when I saw this cute tent style calendar from Marie Mae. I love the gray textured cover and the illustrations for each month are super cute! Each product purchased from Marie Mae provides one hour of business education for women in emerging markets through the Marie Mae Business School. Their products are super adorbs and go to another great cause (man, I love companies that do good!)

highly HIGHLY recommend bonJOY if you’re looking for a new subscription box, or a cool box for someone you love. There’s lots of amazing things in the boxes and I’m sure you’ll feel better knowing that your purchase of the box helps women who are at-risk, exploited and trafficked around the world.

I hope you enjoyed the read & photos! 🙂

Let me know if you’re interested in bonJOY, you won’t regret it!

Xoxo,

Rae
