It’s easy to get into debt when you go to college. After all, with all the exciting things occurring, you don’t want to miss out on the social events. And you want somewhere to live which will not leave you scared at night! However, before you know it, you could soon be feeling the pinch. And debt is hard to leave behind once you have finished college. Therefore, here are some easy ways to avoid debt when you are in college.
Avoid fast-food
When you are college, you will have to make sure you budget for food. After all, a lot of students head to fast-food jaunts, but it soon can lead them into money woe. Therefore, you should buy food in bulk from the grocery store. That way, it will last you for a week or two and will stop you having to call for a takeout. Also, buying in bulk can stop expensive bills when you buy a few items at a time. And make sure you get a recipe book with simple meals which won’t cost you a fortune to make!
Choose affordable accommodation
A lot of us struggle to find accommodation we can afford for college. Therefore, you should make sure you look around the different dorms before making a choice. Although you want somewhere you feel safe, you want one which is within budget. After all, your parents might be struggling to afford it as it is, so you might have to help pay for it. Therefore, find reasonable accommodation which you won’t be paying back for years!
Don’t get overwhelmed by tuition fees
With annual tuition fees ranging from $3,347 for a two-year course to $9,139 for four years, it is a cost that parents struggle to afford. And you might have to help pay for the expense. If you do have to contribute, you need to make sure you agree on an amount every month. You might even want to look into getting an education loan to help your parents pay for the tuition fees. Just make sure when you apply education loan online, it’s something you can afford; you don’t want to get into trouble as you can’t pay it back!
Avoid partying every single night
It’s tempting to go out every night when you are a student. After all, there are always social events which you don’t want to miss. But if you go out every night, you are going to end up out of pocket. Therefore, you need to cut back on nights out so that you can stay on the straight and narrow. And anyway, staying in will help you to concentrate on your college work, so that you end up with a top grade.
And if you want to stay out of debt, you could always get a job during your course. There should be jobs available on your campus which will help you to earn some extra dollars. Or you can find one in your local city to help you make some money. It’s always good to add to your resume to show your hard working too!

Good post! Also it’s a good idea to save some part of the money you get every week/forthnight/month! It works for me 🙂
